They reflect similar permissible levels of stains and tightly-adhered rust, mill scale and coatings, and can be summed up with a chart:. ISO is a visual reference and does not explicitly state percentages. The specifications specifically mention stains, streaks and shadows, but they are practically the same: a difference in color but of no discernible thickness.

Tightly adhered material refers to anything that cannot be peeled off with a dull putty knife. Surface preparations standards exist to maximize coating life and minimize costs.

White Metal is expensive to achieve, especially on maintenance jobs, and typically reserved for critical applications where the cost of failure is catastrophic. Near white is good enough for service in most severe environments. Commercial is less expensive and suitable for non-corrosive atmospheres and service environments.

Brush Off will save the owner the most money in the short run, if he can get away with it. When choosing a coating, the owner weighs the costs of blasting and painting against the risk of a premature coating failure. If the worst-case scenario is that he has to repaint in 5 years instead of 7, he might save money by cutting back from Commercial to Brush-Off.

Visible deposits of oil, grease and dirt must be spot cleaned prior to abrasive blast cleaning. The standards specify numerous methods for solvent cleaning. The most common method — and the least effective — is washing with soap, water and a rag. A dirty rag will also smear grease and oil: care must be taken to wipe, fold, repeat, and replace often. For large surfaces, pressure washing with soapy water is recommended, although soap residue will inhibit coating adhesion and should be rinsed off.

Brush Off is specified to remove loose rust, mill scale and coatings, and uniformly roughen up a surface in preparation for a new coat. Tightly-adherent materials are permitted to remain.

Brush Off is specified where the expected life of the coating is short, such as ship hull antifouling, or in mild atmospheres and non-corrosive service environments, such as the exterior of a tank, in a rural location. Industrial is specified for conditions when the existing coating is thin, well-adherent and compatible with new coating.

It is the most recent abrasive blasting standard, and not widely specified. ISO has no corresponding specification. Commercial Blast Cleaning specifies that all tightly-adhering matter must go. Commercial is specified when a high, but not perfect, degree of cleanliness is warranted. Near White is typically specified for high performance coatings over steel exposed to severe environmental conditions, such as chemical spills and fumes, high humidity, and proximity to salt water.

It is commonly specified for off-shore platforms, shipyards and other marine environments. White Metal is the highest grade of abrasive blast cleaning. No shadows, streaks or stains are permitted. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free of all visible oil, grease, dust, dirt, mill scale, rust, coating, oxides, corrosion products and other foreign matter. White metal is specified for steel serving under high temperatures, high pressures, and corrosive environments, and in cases where the catastrophic consequences of coating failure justify the extra expense, such as nuclear reactors, turbines, chemical tank linings, submarines, etc.

ISO is a pictorial standard containing reference photographs that illustrate what each blast specification looks like on a variety of rust grades and initial conditions. It comes in a hardcover A5 format that can be directly compared to the surface. Judging percentages of stains is an imprecise art that often causes rulers to come out. Preparing a job standard is a best practice for avoiding disputes:.

Surface preparation standards provide a basis for a service level agreement between blasters, contractors, inspectors and project owners. Knowing the standards are important for any abrasive blaster, and is a necessity for certified blasters. The specifications contain detailed methods and practices for preparing surfaces. They are frequently updated, so refer to them by name, date, edition number, and supplement when discussing project standards.

Hi Rani. The SA sand blasting standards are clearly I believe explained by Bijit Sarkar below, and there is a lot of detail on this thread. Hopefully it will help. We also have many threads here about spray painting, and application methods, and paint defects -- please try the search engine. Unfortunately your numbers "" and "" don't mean anything to me. Can you give us some context please? Please try to give us a couple of paragraphs about your situation.

We e-mail posters both when their question is posted and when they receive answers, but sometimes our mail just goes to their spam folder :- So we ask that you 'whitelist' mooney finishing. I need to know the technical details about the following- Surface preparation - Cast Iron part gratings, used for cooking ranges ; the surface needs to be prepared by sand blasting as per Swedish Standard, SA 2.

If it is possible then please inform about the surface finish value Ra, Rmax which can be achieved by the above mentioned process. I am also interested in the relationship between the SA standards SA 1, 2 2.

An interesting answer on your question which may be of help to me? Souren Paul , Laure Spriensma, Mr. Surface preparation standards are stipulated by various bodies throughout the world to designate the cleanliness condition of blasted steel, prior to applying a protective coating. The applicable cleanliness standard is usually called for by either the protective coating manufacturer or the owner of the structure to be painted.

Each standard is divided into four standards of cleanliness, broadly described as follows; brush off, commercial, near white metal, white metal. Whilst each standard may differ slightly in requirements and terminology the following cross reference chart indicates the close approximation of each level of cleanliness for each standard.

I hope the above info is useful to you. We are setting up a shipyard and are installing a plate preparation shop. May I know the surface profile difference between SA 2. Dear Mr. Shahaji Doltade We know that sa 2. Dear sir, I want to know about measuring instrument for surface finish SA 2.

I also want to know about from which size of grit we can achieve surface finish SA 2. Your sincerely. Hi, Prashant. The above discussions lead me to believe that Sa2. Do you have a copy of ISO handy, with its description of Sa2. Thanks for the information that SA 2.

Is it correct! You can't measure the things that are covered by Sa 2. Nor should we reasonably expect a given surface profile to consistently result simply by complying with a blast cleaning specification that is unconcerned about it, and which apparently permits the use blasting grit of any material, any size, and for any amount of time.

However, you can certainly specify both the Sa 2. Just as specifying that an automobile be red in color doesn't specify how many seats it must have, but you can certainly require both that it be red and that it have 5 seats. St 2: Thorough scraping with hard-metal scraper and wirebrushing — disc-sanding — etc. During the operation all the loose scale, rust and foreign matter should be removed. St 3: Extremely thorough scraping and wirebrushing, disc sanding, power brushing etc. Surface preparation as for St 2, but considerably more accurate. After removing the dust, the surface should have a pronounced metallic sheen. Surface preparation grades marine.

And it did not address the issue of placement near existing electrical wiring. Could those subjects be addressed?

I would be most grateful. Great questions. Wiring would be more of an issue with horizontally mounted antennas, like dipoles, as parallel wires could interact with those types of antennas. As for RF safety. This is a complex subject and I have written a separate article that addresses the issue of RF radiation safety and how to evaluate your setup to make sure you are within the FCC guidelines. Details are at the link below. But the signal could be attenuated if the underlayment contains metal foil or mesh.

My attic space is only 65 inches tall and I have the antenna at a slight angle, which provides fair results when leaning toward the local repeater. Is cutting 4 inches off the bottom of the J-Pole advisable? The bottom of my J-Pole antennas have approximately 11 inches of mounting section. The mounting section of the antenna can be any length and shortening it so the antenna fits in your attic will have no effect on the performance of the antenna.

How about a discussion about how to mount the J-Pole in the attic. With the power setup you have to decide whether you want the radio on all the time and manually switch it off when not in use or have it come on with ignition.

In my case I like them to come on with the ignition. I saw too many people leave radios turned on and then after a week or so where the vehicle was parked up, return to a flat battery. I was able to run the power lead into the back of the console where a second accessory point was located.

I cut and soldered in a joiner and connected the radio power lead with fuse into this. I also had to mount the clip that holds the mic when not in use. I wanted this up high, not only to aid in hearing transmissions but to make it easy to get to without fumbling for it down around my legs. It too was stuck to the side of the upper central dash with double sided tape. You can see me unboxing the radio and the antenna in the video below.

Here is an important step, you must cut back the sheath of the coaxial cable to expose the wire earth underneath see these instructions and then after screwing down the terminal connector over the earth wire, solder the tip of the supplied terminal to the exposed wire that you have pushed through.

Once you have carried out this procedure you can fit the coaxial cable to the connector on the underside of the radio. It can be rather confusing when getting down to the nitty gritty things — I know I had a lot of trouble when I first went looking for an appropriate UHF antenna for my own needs.

Hopefully, from all the things I have learned I can help you out and make your antenna choice that much easier! This could be in a group, convoy, in an emergency situation or just to see who is out and about. Often when it comes down to the final decision it is based more around how practical, how function and what features you really need.

Essentially, your antenna is the eyes and ears of your radio. You need it to see incoming signals and hear the the incoming transmissions clearly. If you mount your antenna poorly or it is of poor quality it can reduce how effective and reliable it actually is. Purchasing a quality antenna that fits your requirements is the best way to ensure that you have reliable and effective communication while exploring.

Always remember to test your radio before you head out as it may just save you! When it comes to your antenna there are a few things you need to be aware of. These can change how effective it is and how functional it is for your needs. However, you may not need the tallest one — from a communication perspective a taller one is better but you need to make sure your antenna is functional for you in all occasions. Where you mount your aerial can affect the signal it is able to pick up and transmit to.

The ideal location is actually in the middle of your roof! Often they are mounted on the front guard or the bull bar. This is the easiest location for decent signal that still allows you easy access to it When you do this it is essential that you use a ground independent antenna and mount the antenna away from vertical metal section ie windscreen pillars, other antennas etc.

Vehicle metal structure can shadow your transmission making them quite, hazy or even disrupted by static. You should also mount the antenna as high as possible. This gives you a further distance of communicating which could be vital in a emergency situation. Even the most simplest of issues can become a dyer situation when you are away from others.

The base is how the antenna is attached to your motor vehicle and how the coax cable is secured to your aerial. You want to ensure it is secure and picking the right base is essential. Attaching a whip to the base is also advised, especially when your antenna is rather ridged. A whip enables movement which is particularly useful if you are trekking through bush that will continuously be connecting with your aerial.

Depending on the material that your antenna is made of will determine how much flexibility it has. If your chosen antenna is quite flexible you may be able to forgo a whip altogether — you just need it to suit your use.

If you need it to be able to bend it to get it into a carport or bounce back after being pulled in tree branches you may opt for a whip and an antenna that is already flexible.

To illustrate, we need to look at how rubber duck antennas are made. Rubber duck antennas are basically a wound coil of wire encased in a rubberized sheath. These helically wound springs have the electrical length of a quarter wave antenna, but have a greatly shortened physical length. The main reason for this is convenience.

Handheld radios are designed to be worn on the hip, and who wants a quarter wave antenna poking them in the armpit or tickling their neck. Plus the duck antennas are more flexible and durable than a fixed or telescoping antenna. There are certainly better designs for duck antennas than what comes with your radio. Nagoya makes an excellent aftermarket antenna for the popular Baofeng handheld radios and both Comet and Diamond both offer their version of the duck antenna with the female SMA connector that Baofeng radios require.

These aftermarket antennas will certainly improve performance, but your range will still have limits. But to really boost your performance you need to use an external antenna. External antennas come in all shapes and sizes, from the simple quarter wave vertical to multi element beams.

A popular model for the new ham is the 2 meter J-Pole antenna. This antenna will not only give you increased range, but also offer a upgrade path as you replace your handheld radio with a more powerful base station. So how do you connect a base station antenna to your handheld radio. To make things a bit more complex, there are two different styles of SMA connectors, and you will need the right one for your brand of radio.

How do you know which do you need?

Very stylish, with the plated steel on the black plastic. There is a problem with their overall strength, however: Since there is only a single hole in the D-ring mount is can pivot if pulled hard enough laterally. You can simply slide the channel inside the stake pocket and insert the hitch pin. We have developed a utility trailer version of our extremely popular stake pocket d-rings.

Our utility trailers come with stake pockets standard but some users prefer to use tie-down loops that sit above the deck. These are great for strapping four wheelers, UTVs, motorcycles, mowers, and other cargo. The cargo tie-down loops are sold in pairs, with two pair 4 loops being the most common.

Your trailer is meant to haul heavy loads for long distances. Do you want to install D-rings in your trailer? If you want to know how-to install D-Rings, then it is best to read this easy step-by-step guide on how-to install D-rings in a trailer. That is why D-rings are also called Ring Anchors. The working of D-ring is quite simple. All you have to do is to pull it up in an upright position so that you can hook a tie-down with it. When you are not using it, simply push it back so that it gets leveled down with the floor.

Step 1: Choose the best location in your trailer to mount your new D-ring tie-down.

EIB Files. Planning your installation The chapters in this section describe the architecture of the IBM Tivoli Monitoring products and provide information to help you plan your deployment and prepare to install or upgrade the base components of the product.

To minimize problems during deployment, you should read these chapters carefully. The information in this section is also relevant to these products. Chapter 2, Planning your deployment, on page 13, contains information that assists you in assessing your environment and planning the deployment of product components. Chapter 3, Preparing for installation, on page 59, helps you collect the information you will need during installation and configuration and details the hardware and software requirements for various components and configuration.

It also addresses special considerations for the installation of the Tivoli Data Warehouse and Tivoli Enterprise Portal clients. Chapter 1. These products are based on a set of common service components, referred to collectively as Tivoli Management Services. Tivoli Management Services components provide security, data transfer and storage, notification mechanisms, user interface presentation, and communication services in an agent-server-client architecture Figure 1 on page 4.

This book contains information on deploying, installing and configuring the common services components and the monitoring agents that comprise the base IBM Tivoli Monitoring product Table 1 on distributed systems. If you purchased a product other than IBM Tivoli Monitoring that uses Tivoli Management Services, use this book to install and configure the common components.

Do not install the base agents unless you have purchased IBM Tivoli Monitoring as a separate product. If you purchased additional IBM Tivoli Monitoring products, refer to their documentation for agent-specific installation and configuration information.

Table 1. Tivoli Management Services components and Monitoring agents provide inventory signature files and usage definitions that allow License Manager to report installed products and product usage by computer. License Manager support is an optional capability that requires License Manager version 2. Components of the monitoring architecture Tivoli Monitoring products, and other products that share Tivoli Management Services, participate in a server-client-agent architecture.

Monitoring agents for various operating systems, subsystems, databases, and applications known collectively as Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agents collect data and send it to a Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server.

Data is accessed from the monitoring server by Tivoli Enterprise Portal clients. A Tivoli Enterprise Portal server provides presentation and communication services for the clients.

Several optional components such as an historical data warehouse extend the functionality of the framework. Before deciding where to deploy the components of the Tivoli Monitoring product in your environment, you should understand the components of the product, the roles that they play, and what affects the load on these components.

Every installation requires the following components: v One or more Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Servers, which act as a collection and control point for alerts received from the agents, and collect their performance and availability data. The monitoring server also manages the connection status of the agents. One server in each environment must be designated as the hub. The portal server retrieves data from the hub monitoring server in response to user actions at the portal client, and sends the data back to the portal client for presentation.

The portal server also provides presentation information to the portal client so that it can render the user interface views suitably. Tivoli Enterprise Portal offers two modes of operation: desktop and browser. These agents collect data from monitored, or managed, systems and distribute it to a monitoring server.

An installation optionally includes the following components: v Tivoli Data Warehouse for storing historical data collected from agents in your environment. To store data in this database, you must install the Warehouse Proxy agent. To perform aggregation and pruning functions on the data, you must also install the Summarization and Pruning agent. The following sections describe each of these components in more detail. Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server The Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server referred to as the monitoring server is the first component to install to begin building the Tivoli Management Services foundation.

The monitoring server is the key component on which all other architectural components directly depend. The monitoring server is the collection and control point for performance and availability data and alerts received from monitoring agents. It is also responsible for tracking the online or offline status of monitoring agents. Because of the number of functions the monitoring server performs, large-scale environments include a number of monitoring servers to distribute the load.

One of the monitoring servers is designated the hub monitoring server, and the remaining servers are termed remote monitoring servers. Each remote monitoring server must be located on its own computer and have a unique monitoring server name node , but the architectures of various remote monitoring servers might differ from each other and from the hub monitoring server. In other words, a remote monitoring server running on UNIX can report to a hub monitoring server running on Windows.

The portal server communicates with the hub, which in turn controls the remote servers, as well as any monitoring agents that might be connected to it directly. The monitoring server storage repository is a proprietary database format referred to as the Enterprise Information Base, or EIB.

The hub holds the master copy of the EIB, while the remote servers maintain a subset of the EIB relevant to them, which is synchronized with the hub.

The Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server referred to as the portal server manages data access through user workspace consoles the clients. The portal server is configured to connect to a hub monitoring server. It retrieves data from the hub in response to user actions at a portal client, and sends the data back to the portal client for presentation.

The portal server uses a DB2 or Microsoft SQL database to store various artifacts related to presentation at the portal client. The portal client provides access to the Tivoli Enterprise Portal.

There are two kinds of portal client: v Browser client interface automatically installed with Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server : In your Internet browser, to start Tivoli Enterprise Portal browser client, you can enter the URL for a specific Tivoli Enterprise Portal browser client installed on your Web server. Running the browser client is supported only on Windows computers. After the desktop client is installed and configured, you can use it to start Tivoli Enterprise Portal in desktop mode.

You can also download and run the desktop client using Java Web Start. See Planning considerations for the Tivoli Enterprise Portal client on page 26 for a discussion of the comparative advantages of each type of portal client. Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring agents Monitoring agents are data collectors.

Agents monitor systems, subsystems, or applications, collect data, and pass the data to Tivoli Enterprise Portal through the monitoring server. The agents pass commands from the user to the system, subsystem, or application.

An agent interacts with a single system or application and, in most cases, is located on the same computer where the system or application is running. There are two types of monitoring agents: v Operating system OS agents that monitor the availability and performance of the computers in your monitoring environment.

You can use the Universal Agent to monitor any data that you collect in your environment. For example, you can use the Universal Agent to monitor the status of your company Web site to ensure that it is available.

This is the same DVD that you use to install the monitoring servers, portal server, and portal desktop clients. IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5. The Base DVD also includes application support for a small number of non-base distributed monitoring agents.

See Selecting the correct support media on page for more information. You can generate warehouse reports for short-term or long-term data through the Tivoli Enterprise Portal.

Warehouse reports provide information about the availability and performance of your monitoring environment over a period of time. You can also use third-party warehouse reporting software, such as Crystal Reports or Brio, to generate reports. Two specialized agents interact with the Tivoli Data Warehouse: v The Warehouse Proxy agent receives data collected by monitoring agents and moves it to the Tivoli Data Warehouse database.

Figure 2 on page 8 shows the flow of situation events from the monitoring server to the event server as Event Integration Facility EIF events and the flow of updates to the situation events back to the monitoring server. If you are monitoring event data from a supported event management system in the Tivoli Enterprise Console event view or the Common Event Console view, you can filter out forwarded events.

For information about the various configurations of monitoring servers and event servers that you can have in your environment, see Part 5, Integrating event management systems, on page New in this release The following are changes in this release that affect installation or configuration.

Application support for additional V6. This DVD contains the national language versions of the help and presentation files for the following languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese Brazilian, Spanish. Changes to runtime prerequisites and platform support Runtime prerequisites have changed in several environments, especially AIX.

Support for some platforms have been added and support for others have been dropped. Carefully review the information in Hardware and software requirements on page 70, especially the table footnotes, for V6.

See Upgrading the warehouse on page The hub monitoring server can now be configured to validate user IDs and passwords using either the local system registry or a central LDAP authentication and authorization system. This enhancement permits the sharing of user authentication information among products and prepares for future cross-product integration such as single sign-on. For more information, see Understanding security options on page 67 and Configuring user authentication on page The Help Server is installed with the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and can only be started and stopped by starting and stopping the portal server.

Reverse synchronization for forwarded events changes at the event server returned to the originating monitoring server is provided by an event synchronization component SitUpdateForwarder. For more information, see Event integration scenarios on page 52 and Part 5, Integrating event management systems, on page Common Event Console view for events from multiple event servers The Common Event Console enables you to view and manage events from the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server in the same way as the situation event console.

Event data is retrieved from an event system by a common event connector, which also sends user-initiated actions to be run in that event system. To have the events from a specific event system displayed in the common event console, you must configure a connector for that event system. During configuration of the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server you can edit the default connector for the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server and you can configure additional connectors for other event systems.

Remote installation of application support files using Manage Tivoli Monitoring Services on Linux In previous versions, the Manage Tivoli Monitoring Services utility on Windows can be used to FTP application catalog and attribute files to non-local monitoring servers.

The utility can also be used to transfer the. In V6. Flexible scheduling of Summarization and Pruning agent The Summarization and Pruning agent has been enhanced to allow for flexible scheduling and to have the warehouse and warehouse aggregation logs trimmed automatically after a specified number of days, months, or years. Validation of monitoring server protocols and standby configuration In previous versions, there was no validation of hub and remote monitoring server protocols and standby configuration.

You may see warnings if you enter incorrect values during configuration. Base components and Monitoring agents provide inventory signature files and usage definitions that allow License Manager to report installed products and product usage by computer.

You can create an optimal design only after carefully considering the organizational needs and limitations for example hardware availability and understanding the technical capabilities of the IBM Tivoli Monitoring software.

Understanding the following conditions accelerates your design efforts and ensures that the solution performs as expected: v A thorough and accurate picture of your networking environment.

The number of factors that need to be considered and their influence on the architecture vary for each organization. Viewing these factors from both a physical and organizational perspective offers a way to arrange factors into manageable groups. The physical perspective is the network physical topology, such as available equipment and configuration of systems, in which IBM Tivoli Monitoring must operate. The existing environment influences how and where you deploy systems. In many ways, the physical environment forms baseline constraints for the entire design.

The organizational perspective includes expectations and limitations derived from the way you do business, and the division of authority and control of the systems to be managed. Organizational factors can influence the goals and means to deploy a monitoring solution.

The factors in the following sections, ordered by priority, are not a comprehensive list. Additional factors might be important in your environment.

Physical perspective The following sections provide information about the physical perspective for a monitoring environment. Network factors Prepare a network diagram or sketch of the network topology, if one is not already available for your organization.

This network design information is necessary for the design process and should at a minimum provide details about the following critical and important considerations: v Line speed of each network connection. The line speed impacts the number of hub monitoring servers and the placement of remote monitoring servers and the Tivoli Data Warehouse.

Determine if there are bandwidth restrictions that must be honored to share limited bandwidth with other applications. It points out the recommended strategy for the Tivoli historical date collection. We highly advise structuring the historical collection flow as outlined in the diagram. Architecture and planning 13 In a large installation, implementing the Hot Standby node is strongly recommended.

Performing an accurate plan and assessment stage is imperative for the large installation. Mapping all component topology with the recommended hardware specifications is critical in order to achieve a highly distributed environment with realistic goals.

We recommend having a thorough understanding of the monitoring environment before preceding to implement any architectural design. It is important to account for all variables within the topology. Network bandwidth, latency, and firewall restriction all require assessment. After installation, it begins leveraging the best practice functionality immediately. Default situations start running, and if historical data collection is turned on, the default attribute groups begin analysis and warehousing.

These default services can impede the large installation performance throughput, especially if unnecessary attributed group collections are enabled.

This practice ensures the freedom to execute the business plan strategy defining managed system list, customized situation, event mapping, date warehousing intervals, and so forth that are generated from the assessment and planning phrase. It is vital to the health of the large installation that only the desired situations and attribute groups are enabled. A large monitoring installation supports approximately 1, managed systems in an environment. For the large installation, the estimate is three agents per managed system.

In this installation, a disproportionate distribution of agents is highly anticipated, and this scenario should complement your own environment analysis phrase. Keeping agents as the high point per monitoring server allows for capacity expansion without exhausting the resources of the infrastructure. The Tivoli Data Warehouse data requirement will be substantial. We always recommend keeping these two components together.

However, the large installation can contain a reasonable increase in volume of event flow, and the Tivoli Enterprise Console is better adapted for large event flow management and Chapter 1. Architecture and planning 15 The entire large installation can be managed from a single GUI presentation layer down to installing and upgrading agents.

The scope of the huge installation is similar to the large installation, except for additional configuration guidance. It demonstrates the high-level component interaction between two installations that handle 4, agents each, totaling 8, agents entirely. A huge installation can warehouse historical data collections to one single database server repository from two distinct IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.

Best practice design is critical to ensure a stable, scalable environment. Architecture and planning 17 The two installations are still built separately from each other. Because the Summarization and Pruning agent requires connections to a TEMS, one of the monitoring installations must be logically designated as the master.

A flexible feature that is needed in the huge installation is the ability to configure multiple TEP instances in a single TEP desktop client. Type the instance name and click OK Figure Figure Entering the Instance Name into the dialog box Chapter 1. Architecture and planning 19 Architecture and planning 21 For a successful implementation, it is important to understand the component communication flow.

The connectionless UDP protocol requires opening up multiple ports across firewalls to allow multiple connections from each individual IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.

Also, using the IP. Note: When IP. PIPE is specified as your communications protocol, you may still see other ports being used in communication traces and logs, but these ports are virtual and multiplexed over the default IP.

PIPE port. The IP. Any processes above 16 will fall back to using the IP protocol only if configured. This mainly is a restriction when running large numbers of Tivoli Enterprise Management Agents on one physical system. This may occur only when a system is required to run more than 16 Universal Agents or has more than 16 Database Agent instances. If firewall restrictions force the use of the IP.

The TEMS may run out of sockets listen threads. The maximum value that can be set is Use this table as a quick reference to understand the standard ports for an installation. Although modifying these default values is supported, it is not recommended.

Refer to Example on page Tip: Do not deviate from the default listening ports without a valid reason, even though this is supported. Using IP. PIPE enables a few well-known ports to be open through the firewall. You can use Example on page 24 to calculate which port to open. If the firewall is not using NAT Network Address Translation , the computation should be sufficient to have the components connect through the firewall. Architecture and planning 23 Note: is the default well-known port.

Any well-known port can be configured, as long as the entire environment matches this port number. Ideally, all components that need access through the firewall should use the lower-number ports, and components that do not cross the firewall use higher-number ports. See Example on page If the process is unable to bind to the highest port respective to N, it immediately fails to start up.

If the process is unable to bind to the port respective to N, it will keep trying using the algorithm until all available ports are exhausted. Total views On Slideshare 0. From embeds 0.
