This produced a file was playable on the PS3. My remaining problems are that the PS3 is not getting the aspect ratio correct on playback and the ffmpeg process is only copying one audio stream and not necessarily the right one. It appears that my original VOBs must have incorrect header information.
I can't think of another reason why a straightforward stream copy would solve the playback issues. Any hints on the aspect ratio issue would be gratefully received. Hillskill said:. The red quoted area, could this process be applying a change in aspect ratio? Are you transcoding exsisting VOBs in this process or encoding new ones? If you are transcoding, is there an option to preserve incoming ratio? I just gave you the instructions, they've hijacked the thread and are talking about playing via a Linux setup.

I would try stream with the new PS3 Media Server. I don't believe Nero really does much well anymore.
Certainly all the comments about it's media server suggest it is pretty crappy in the PS3 forums. I couldn't get TVersity to do that nicely. Read my blog here. They also have the correct size per file displayed.
Can someone please help me out? Well as a test try running it through DVDShrink. You'll now have one large VOB to try. I was ripping them into one big. VOB file and that's when I wouldn't get a sound. It turns out if they're split up I do have sound. When I play it however the entire movie seems to be there and the seconds are counting correctly not too fast windows media player is doing the same thing after I name the file. If I fast forward it and then hit play it freezes. This is driving me nuts.
Well you can play around with this little app to change format. Under Video resize keep it at original and adjust the audio. If you choose the last Xvid profile the size is ignored, but the quality is very nice a large file. Try the x for a smaller file. I have always had the same problem playing vob files on my PS3 and in spite of everything I have tried, it is a mystery to me. Using a usb drive plugged into my PS3, I have used just about every program in my arsenal to have the PS3 play vob files. It will play some and not others.
For example. Free Screen Recorder. Free Video Compressor. Free PDF Compressor. Free Audio Converter. Free Audio Recorder. Free Video Joiner. Free Image Compressor. Puzzle Game Cube. Data Recovery Data Recovery. Blu-ray Player Blu-ray Player. Video Editor Video Editor. Screen Recorder Screen Recorder. Now you may wonder, what is a VOB file and how do I play it?
